    Ziplining in Langkawi

We started out with filling in the safety forms and with fitting the harness . Then we got a safety breefing on what to do and what not to do.  After that we were transported halfway up the waterfall to start our flying. The instructors spoke well english and they keept reminding us of the […]

    When arriving in Langkawi

When you arrive in Langkawi there are a few things you need to know. Whether you come by plane or ferry. First of all, Pantai Cenang / Pantai Tengah area is the best if you want to experience beach, restaurants, bars and shops. There are lots of hotels here ranging from lowest budget to splurge […]

    Walking up to Gunung Raya

Yes this is a nice but quite hard walk. It´s 4287 steps to the top and most of them are upwards (a few ones going down before the final stretch up.) Gunung Raya is the highest mountain on Langkawi. Start in Kampung Bukus (Book Village) and follow the path. The park in this area is […]

    Nest Rooftop, Langkawi

The Nest is the first roof top bar in Langkawi and the view from up here is amazing. You can see Pantai Cenang from a totally different view. Watching the sunset from here is popular and you need to be out in time to get a good place to sit. They serve food, inspired from […]

Langkawi on a budget

Trying to live on RM 100 /day is not easy but quite possible. (x2 for SEK)

So the living cost got a tad bit higher than I was hoping for but I still decided to try to stay on the same budget. So out of RM 100 /day I spend half on living.  I have cooking facilites, free wifi, ac, a pool and a great terrace where I can sit and work.

Langkawi 255
Langkawi 047
Langkawi 087
Langkawi 198

So I keep looking for inexpensive places to eat, sure none of them are really expensive but so that I will be able to eat and drink for under RM 50.

D’kahs : Beef in ginger sauce RM 10, rice RM  1,50 and big water RM 3. Perfect lunch or dinner. There is also Black pepper sauce, thai sauce, sweet and sourand so on,  so there is plenty to vary.

Tomato. has indian food, very delicious and fresh. I tasted the garlic naan, chicken masala and water for RM 17. Got tipped to try the cheese garlic naan and ask for other sauce, will do that. Sounds delicious!

Artisans pizza. Spagetti bolognese and small water 15,50. Salami and cheese sandwich RM 6. They also deliver. (Yes I know, only one pizza place here!)

Breakfast bar serves Thai chicken curry for RM 15. Had Gyros there the other night for RM 25.

I also found one of the greatest hamburger joints for miles! Simple, easy, fresh, barbequed and del-ici-ous! RM 7,50 for a cheese burger.

If you stay away from the touristy places and go to the local places it’s easy to stay under RM 50 / day!  I could even eat out twicea day if I stay cheap!

But I don’t, well sometimes I do but mostly I eat out once / day and I eat the rest at home. Instant noodles but also food I bought from the night market and of course I make my own, like bangers & mash (korv & mos), pasta with chicken. Easy dishes but who wants to spend time on cooking when they don’thave to?

Also I almost never drink when I go out, except to Champor Champor, just to save money. The beer is third the price or less from my refridgerator than a bar! (I buy the beer for RM 1,50 and pay from RM 5 in the bar.)

I eat fresh fruit and drink not only water, the food varies and I do have some Snickers and chips laying around when I need it.

It doesn’t really get much better than that, right?!

So for the first 19 days in Langkawi on a budget I was able to stay under spending RM 40 per day! I am satisfied with that and belive me it’s not boring at all, I am having a great time don’t feel like I am cheap or anything, except for one thing: I need transportation so I can get out of Cenang more often. Maybe I should look for a used bike to buy?
