Someone may say that you have to do a course or obtain a certificate to become a Muslim. This is incorrect. You do not need to attend a course or obtain a certificate to become Muslim.
it is easy to convert to Islam. To become a Muslim one must simply pronounce the Shahaad (Declaration of Faith) with sincerity and conviction.
The Shahadah is the following :
” Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illaallaah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan-ar-rasool ullaah ” (In Arabic)
“I bear witness that there is no God worthy to be worshiped but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”
In Malaysia this is what you do:
Visit the Religious department and tell them you want to convert. You will then meet with a man who will help you through it. First of all he will ask you if you are doing this freely and in your own will. Noone can force anybody to become a muslim.
After that there is a small information from the man informing you that once yo become a muslim, there is no going back from it. It is forever. (I know of people who have left Islam tho, so that is not written in stone)
You will say the shahada out loud either in Arabic or in english.
You are now officially a muslim.
After that there is a lesson in the basics of Islam, how to be a “good muslim”.
Sometimes they will force you to change you name and claim it´s the law, but that is not true, you do not have to change your name if you don´t want to.
You will get a temporary certificate on the conversion and you are done.
After about a month you will get definitive papers that you have converted.
